African Americans in Anthropology Mentoring Program (the AAAMP)

Although retired, Dr.  Tony Whitehead (Professor Emeritus, Anthropology, University of Maryland) is still involved in a number of projects, including this new one, which he has titled African Americans in Anthropology Mentoring Program (AAAMP). The AAAMP was initiated to support mentees who Dr. Whitehead decides to provide “experiential learning” opportunities by working with him on one or more of the projects in which he is working at any one point in time.

This mentoring initiative is an invitation to others, particularly young writers, to join Dr. Whitehead in either co-authoring his work, or as motivation in producing their own materials on related topics. Your donation will provide funds to support the program’s ambitions.

UMD-HBCU Graduate Mentoring Scholarship Fund in Cultural, Community, and Health Sciences

The UMD-HBCU Graduate Mentoring Scholarship Fund in Cultural, Community, and Health Sciences was established at the retirement of Dr. Tony Whitehead, honoring his legacy and continuing passionate commitment to providing mentorship to graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) interested in pursuing a graduate degree in anthropology with a focus on community health action research.  Awardees will be mentored first by Dr. Whitehead, and eventually by other UMD faculty members involved in anthropological, ethnographic, or community health research or professional practice.  Once this fund reaches endowment level, all contributions made into this account shall be transferred into an endowed fund.
